Textiles

Early on in his career, Carl Malmsten selected fabrics from Italy for his furniture and furnishings, but he soon went over to working with Swedish textiles. He used, for example, designs by Märta Måås-Fjetterström, but also his own compositions. His best known patterns include “Raka rankor” (Straight Tendrils) used for the Supreme Court in Stockholm, “Fågel Blå” (Blue Bird) for the Home Exhibition 1917 and “Grandifolium” and “Pilaster” for Solna Läroverk (secondary school) in the late 1940s.
